Nvidia Uses AI to Make NPCs Come to Life
In Brief
Leading tech company Nvidia announced a new AI model called ACE or Avatar Cloud Engine.
The system is designed to make non-playable characters (NPCs) come to life and provide an immersive experience for every player.
At the Computex conference in Taiwan, leading tech company Nvidia unveiled several significant updates, including the Grace Hopper AI Supercomputer.
The company also announced a new artificial intelligence model called ACE, or “Avatar Cloud Engine,” created for the gaming industry. The system is designed to make non-playable characters (NPCs) come to life and provide an immersive experience for every player, according to Nvidia’s blog post. Nvidia has also released a demonstration video in partnership with Convai.
“Imagine a game in which you could have intelligent, unscripted, and dynamic conversations with non-playable characters (NPCs) with persistent personalities that evolve over time and accurate facial animations and expressions, all in your native tongue,” explains the company in a blog post.
For those interested in creating or deploying AI models for speech, conversation, and animation, the Avatar Cloud Engine for games will provide systems that enable users to build and deploy. Nvidia Omniverse Audio2Face, for example, is a tool that can be used by developers that wish to generate expressive facial animation for game characters from audio sources. MetaHuman characters may be created or integrated with facial animation through Omniverse connectors for Unreal Engine 5.
With the deployment of generative AI, the entire gaming industry is set to experience a radical and quick shift, which is poised to blur reality and virtual worlds.
“Generative AI has the potential to revolutionize the interactivity players can have with game characters and dramatically increase immersion in games. Building on our expertise in AI and decades of experience working with game developers, NVIDIA is spearheading the use of generative AI in games,” said the vice president of developer and performance technology at NVIDIA, John Spitzer.
