Sovereign Bond
What is Sovereign Bond?
A type of bond issued by a government to fund public spending is known as a government bond or sovereign bond. In most cases, it entails an obligation to return the face value on the maturity date and to make recurring interest payments, or coupon payments.
Understanding of Sovereign Bond
Both the government’s own currency and foreign currencies may be used to purchase government bonds. Bonds from nations with less stable economies are typically denominated in the hard currency (i.e., money of a nation with a more stable economy). Bondholders may experience a default if governments with less stable economies issue bonds and are unable to repay bondholders. Bonds all have a default risk. Bonds from every nation are rated by international credit rating firms. Riskier bonds are often demanded by bondholders with greater yields. Sovereign debt crises are occasionally used to describe governments that are on the verge of default.
