Before taking over as CEO in September 2019, Julie oversaw Accenture’s operations in North America, which is the company’s biggest geographical region. She spent five years as Accenture’s chief compliance officer, general counsel, and secretary before that. Prior to joining Accenture in 2010, Julie worked as a partner at Cravath, Swaine & Moore LLP for ten years.
Julie is a member of the board of directors of the Business Roundtable, where she leads the Technology Committee, and the board of trustees of the World Economic Forum. In addition, Julie is a member of the boards of trustees for the Marriott Foundation for People with Disabilities – Bridges from School to Work, the Center for Strategic & International Studies, and Catalyst. She ranked first on FORTUNE’s list of the “Most Powerful Women in Business” in 2020. Julie graduated from Columbia Law School with a Juris Doctor degree and Claremont McKenna College with a Bachelor of Arts degree.
In her fourth year as the CEO of the massive professional services company, Julie Sweet had a rough go. Accenture, citing low client spending on IT, revealed intentions to cut 19,000 positions in March and issued a cautious business outlook for the next fiscal year in September. Nevertheless, a company announced $16 billion in sales for the fourth quarter, up 4% in US dollars from the same time previous year. Accenture said in June that it will invest $3 billion in AI and expand the number of staff working on AI to 80,000. Sweet is placing a large bet on AI to help Accenture go into the future. Accenture has been using Writer’s enterprise generative AI software internally since 2021, and in September, the company’s venture capital arm made a strategic investment in the startup.
