Meta is experimenting with Ethereum and Polygon NFTs on Facebook

Meta has started testing Ethereum and Polygon NFTs as Facebook PFPs for U.S.-based creators. The company plans to allow users to connect their wallets to their profiles and include Solana and Flow NFTs in the future.

“Rolling out more ways for creators to make money on Facebook and Instagram—and sharing updates that will help creators build for the metaverse,” Zuckerberg shared on Facebook last week.

Meta’s Product Manager Navdeep Singh has given a preview of what NFTs would look like on the social media platform. The “Digital collectibles” tab will be available on Facebook profiles, where users can showcase their NFTs.

Users will be able to connect their wallets to Facebook and turn their NFTs into posts, where friends and followers can react, like, and comment as per usual on Facebook.

The feature will kick off in the U.S. since the NFT support service takes time and modifications to reach full integration. Apart from Facebook, NFT displays will also be a part of Meta’s remaining social platforms, such as WhatsApp and Instagram.

The social media giant keeps on expanding its Web3 journey. In May, it started featuring NFTs in Instagram posts for a group of creators in selected countries. Last week, the company began testing NFTs on Instagram stories through the augmented reality platform Spark AR. NFTs posted on Instagram will automatically tag the creator and holder and will be free to post.

In June, the company also released Crayta, a cloud-streaming game that allows players to build virtual worlds and play games on Facebook.
