OpenSea working on ‘connect to Instagram’ feature to verify connections between accounts

Hidden feature sleuth Jane Manchun Wong has uncovered a new OpenSea profile setting which will let users verify the connection between their OpenSea and Instagram.

As Wong notes, this is a change from simply linking to Instagram and is likely connected to Meta’s plan to add NFTs to its image-centric social media site.

Instagram head Adam Mosseri elaborated on how NFTs will work in a tweeted video Monday. Mosseri said that NFTs could offer moneymaking opportunities for creators, suggesting Insta users will be able to buy and sell using the platform.

NFTs on Instagram will only be available in the US at first, and a Meta announcement released around the same time as Mosseri’s video stated that “digital collectibles” are also coming to Facebook — eventually. Meta says users will be “able to display and share digital collectibles as AR stickers in Instagram Stories.”

It’s reasonable to expect OpenSea to make future profile settings changes to verify Facebook accounts in a similar manner. It’s also reasonable to say that reports pronouncing the death of the NFT are somewhat exaggerated.
