Movie star and multi-disciplinary artist Jim Carrey has announced the upcoming launch of his first NFT. The actor chose SuperRare marketplace to publish his debut non-fungible token.
The NFT piece is called “SunShower.” As Carrey dedicates his spare time to painting, the artwork is one of his numerous creations. “SunShower” was designed using an original technique of pouring acrylic from paint tubes directly onto canvas, and the colors are then scarped to leave an imprint of each.
Before issuing the NFT, Jim decided to give his painting the form of animation. To digitalize it, the actor partnered with filmmaker David Bushell. Jim Carrey’s philosophic speeches accompany the NFT.
“A sunshower seems like you’re being given a divine gift, a form of medicine with miraculous regenerative potential,” said the actor. “It’s hard to hang on to skepticism while the air around you is sparkling like diamonds.”
Jim Carrey is not new to NFTs. As the actor announced his possible retirement from the movie industry, he started dedicating more time to art and discovering new spaces. On June 1, Jim purchased an NFT by Ryan Koopsman and Alice Wexell, noticing that it was the first NFT in his collection.
The “SunShower” auction starts today, June 9, at 12 PM PT, exclusively on SuperRare. The starting price is $1. Carrey will donate the proceeds from the primary sale to Feeding America, a non-profit organization providing hunger relief to children in need.
