AI in Gaming: 3 Innovation Trends for the Future of Gaming

Currently and sometimes, even if we don’t realize it, AI is present in many areas of daily life. One of the fields in which it has already been applied quite successfully is video games, due in part to their nature.

They’re using the technology to level up in areas like reinforcement learning, image processing techniques and procedural content generation. But we are only at the beginning and the impact of this technology on the iGaming industry will be increasing. Let’s dive deeper into how these evolving concepts are being used today and what trends we can expect down the road.

AI Evolution in Gaming & First Use Cases

One of the first AIs was Deep Blue, developed by IBM, which competed against world chess champion Garri Kasparov, managing to beat him and thus marking a milestone in the evolution of this type of system. Given the fact that traditional chess rules have many similarities with other games, including poker found at bitcoin casino, we have had the opportunity to see AI contributions in other games as well.

AI Evolution in Gaming & First Use Cases

We have to travel back in 2015 to find another of the most famous, in this case, trained with more modern machine learning techniques – AlphaGo. Developed by the DeepMind company, it managed to beat the world champion of the traditional game Go, demonstrating a great power to discover new plays and to put one of the masters of this game on the ropes.

Other cases of similar AI are OpenAI Five, capable of defeating one of the best players of the video game Dota2, and Agent57, again trained by DeepMind and capable of playing a wide variety of video games on the Atari console, sometimes significantly surpassing the average performance obtained by humans.

Thus, video games are a good terrain to test reinforcement learning, a branch of AI that consists of training an agent to try to maximize a reward function and, in this way, improve the performance of his assigned task, which in this case would be to win the game.

There is no arguing that AI has been rocking the gaming and betting industry. According to Statista.com, by 2025 the global online gaming market will reach $316.4 billion, and AI will be the driving force behind this growth.

Game developers are harnessing its power to create products with even more sophisticated graphics and gameplay. In fact, AI is expected to bring about three exciting innovations that will revolutionize gaming as we know it. Let’s look at them in more detail.

VR Gaming or Metaverse

VR Gaming or Metaverse

The future of gaming is looking bright thanks to advancements in artificial intelligence. With VR headsets like Oculus Rift and other technologies making immersion easier than ever before paired up with AI make-believe becomes even closer than some people may think.

It can’t be compared to anything else when gamers have a chance to feel what they see. Unforgettable experiences that take them somewhere beyond their imagination is promised at the bare minimum.

Generative Artificial Intelligence

Another innovation trend is generative AI – you may have already seen it in action with amazing pictures coming from Midjourney or text generated by ChatGPT. This tech has been used for years in game development for procedural generation – but now with dynamic AI at our fingertips, we can create even more interesting content where procgen hits its limits.

And there is no denying that’s just the beginning. You can expect to see more generative tools integrated into mods so players can explore new ways of expressing themselves while playing their favorite games. Of course, not everything created using these novel systems will hit the mark first time around – which means studios focusing on rapid iteration and creativity hold all the cards when it comes to succeeding in this new world of iGaming.

Cloud-Based Gaming

As its name suggests, cloud gaming is a new way to play games where you don’t have to download or install them, they’re just streamed over the internet straight to your device. And to be honest, it turned out to be a real game-changer for many.

Cloud-Based Gaming

With AI technology making characters and environments more realistic than ever before, it takes users to a completely new world. Plus, the AI tracks your behavior and preferences to create personalized gaming experiences that are totally unique.

Wrapping Up

To top it all up, artificial intelligence has opened the doors for limitless possibilities when it comes to creating one-of-a-kind gaming experiences and reshaping the digital gaming market as we know it now. With AI at our disposal now, it’s easier than ever for developers to push boundaries and deliver innovative products.

At the end of the day, though, what’s the ultimate goal here? To transport players to a whole new world and make them feel immersed in what they see on their screens. And with AI leading the charge, we’re closer to achieving that goal than ever before.
