Renault is Set to Release its Second NFT Collection, Featuring Physical Sneakers

French automobile manufacturer Renault is set to release its second NFT collection. The drop, called “RACING SHOE5,” pushes the limits of innovation to link physical and digital.

The collection includes 960 physical sneaker pairs backed by “digital twin” NFTs. Every pair features a near-field communication chip, which allows owners to redeem second, proof of ownership NFTs. By connecting the “RACING SHOE5” to their digital passports, individuals can discover the composition and the manufacturing journey of each item. Notably, the physical sneakers are reduced from eco-responsible materials, such as Leather Working Group-certified leather. So, in this case, the non-fungible token technology proves both the provenience of each sneaker and its quality.

NFTs will grant holders access to several benefits. For instance, they will have the possibility to meet the brand’s designers at Renault’s Research and Development Center.

The collection is scheduled to be released on May 17 on Renault’s website dedicated to web3 projects. Notably, the R3NLT community members will get early access to the collection. Eligible individuals who pre-register for the drop will be able to mint the tokens on May 15. Every sneaker pair will go for €265.

“The RACING SHOE5 collection gives Renault enthusiasts an innovative new way to engage with their favorite auto company. Renault’s second NFT drop is a unique opportunity for brand fans to get their hands on an exclusive pair of custom-designed sneakers and enjoy an immersive, 3D experience,”

shared the team behind the project.

Notably, this is not Renault’s first NFT drop. In December 2022, the company released its genesis non-fungible token collection to celebrate the fiftieth anniversary of Renault 5. The collection, dubbed “genR5,” included  1,972 generative 3D tokens. NFT holders had access to a bunch of perks, such as the possibility to visit Renault’s Atelier in Flint.

The automobile manufacturer is not new to the metaverse either. In November 2022, the company announced the launch of the first-ever industrial metaverse. By 2025, the project will reportedly save Renault $330 million and an additional $270 million in inventory.
