Computer scientist Ilya Sutskever works in the field of machine learning. He is the Chief Scientist and co-founder of OpenAI. He has significantly advanced the area of deep learning in a number of ways. CEO Sam Altman was sacked by Sutskever and the OpenAI board in 2023, but he returned a week later. Along with Alex Krizhevsky and Geoffrey Hinton, he is co-inventor of the convolutional neural network known as AlexNet. Sutskever is among the several co-authors of the report published by AlphaGo.
Ilya said in 2023 that he will co-lead OpenAI’s new “Superalignment” project, which aims to resolve the superintelligence alignment problem in four years. Even though superintelligence appears far off, he suggested that it may occur this decade.
Sutskever was formerly a member of the non-profit board that governs OpenAI, consisting of six members. The Information conjectured that a disagreement over how much the corporation should invest to AI safety played a role in Sam Altman’s termination. Shortly after the board meeting, Sutskever said that removing Altman was “the board doing its duty” during a business all-hands meeting. However, the next week, he expressed sorrow for his role in Altman’s removal. Three prominent researchers at OpenAI resigned as a result of Brockman’s resignation and Altman’s termination. Sutskever left his position as OpenAI’s board member when these things happened.
