Haribo and The Premier League File Web3, Metaverse, and VR Trademarks
In Brief
Haribo filed trademarks with plans to issue NFTs and wearable technology devices, including VR and smart glasses.
The Football Association Premier League reportedly aims to develop cryptocurrency and blockchain software, as well as an NFT marketplace and digital garment.
Last week, Haribo and The Premier League filed NFT, VR, metaverse, and web3 trademark applications. The news was shared by the United States Patent and Trademark Office licensed trademark attorney Mike Kondoudis.
According to the attorney’s Twitter post, German confectionery company Haribo filed trademarks with plans to issue non-fungible token artworks featuring confectionaries, digital avatars, and cartoons. The organization will also release downloadable digital collectibles of these items.
In addition, the trademark application covers wearable technology devices, such as watches, as well as virtual reality glasses and smart glasses.
On April 19, the Football Association Premier League filed NFT, metaverse, and web3 trademark applications for the “Summer Series.”
The football association reportedly plans to develop cryptocurrency and blockchain software, as well as crypto and virtual currency wallets. The trademark application also includes software for facilitating blockchain-based financial transactions using cryptocurrency. In addition, it features software that enables users to compile, store, transmit, receive, trade, and exchange virtual currencies, NFTs, and other digital assets. Overall, it seems like the Premier League intends to develop a tool that would facilitate the use of blockchain.
The application also mentions downloadable virtual goods that could be used in online virtual worlds. The FA reportedly plans to release footwear, clothing, headwear, sportswear, football shirts, eyewear, bags, sports bags, backpacks, sports equipment, footballs, art, and even toys.
More than that, the Football Association Premier League wants to develop an NFT marketplace. The platform will probably be created specifically for buyers and sellers of FA’s digital equipment.
Traditional brands continue taking notice of the potential opportunities that new technologies offer. Among the other well-known companies that have recently filed web3 trademark applications are Amazon, Nissan, and Absolut.
