Pfizer To Integrate Chai Discovery’s AI Platform To Advance And Scale Molecular Drug Design

In Brief

Chai Discovery signs licensing deal with Pfizer to deploy AI models in drug discovery, enabling faster molecular design, improved antibody development, and broader biologics research capabilities.

Pfizer To Integrate Chai Discovery’s AI Platform To Advance And Scale Molecular Drug Design

Chai Discovery, a company developing artificial intelligence models for molecular discovery, has announced a licensing agreement with pharmaceutical company Pfizer.

The company focuses on applying AI to drug discovery with the aim of reducing reliance on traditional trial-and-error methods. Its models are designed to analyse biological structures and functions, generate new molecular candidates, and support pharmaceutical research on targets that are often difficult to address using conventional approaches.

Under the agreement, Pfizer will integrate Chai’s AI platform into its drug discovery workflows, gaining early access to the Chai-3 model as well as a customised version trained on Pfizer’s proprietary data and adapted to its internal processes.

Chai Discovery develops generative AI systems capable of predicting and engineering molecular interactions, enabling the design of biomolecules with specific functional properties. Drug discovery has historically involved long experimental cycles with uncertain outcomes, but the use of advanced AI models is intended to accelerate early-stage research by generating novel molecular structures and shortening development timelines from months or years to shorter iterative cycles.

Chai-3 Model Advances Antibody Design Performance and Discovery Speed

According to the announcement, the combination of Chai’s AI platform with Pfizer’s scientific expertise and proprietary datasets is expected to expand capabilities in biologics research and support efforts to pursue previously challenging therapeutic targets.

As part of the agreement, Pfizer will be among the first pharmaceutical partners to access Chai-3, a previously unreleased model. The system is reported to offer significant improvements in AI-driven antibody design, including higher success rates compared with earlier versions and the ability to generate antibodies that meet therapeutic requirements. It also advances performance in areas such as multi-specific molecules, difficult-to-target proteins, and generalisation across biological tasks.

Chai-3 builds on the company’s earlier Chai-2 model, which was introduced in 2025 as a zero-shot antibody design system capable of producing drug-like candidates with substantially improved experimental success rates compared with earlier computational methods, reducing discovery timelines from months to weeks.

The agreement between Chai Discovery and Pfizer reflects a broader trend of increasing adoption of frontier AI systems within the pharmaceutical industry, as such technologies move from experimental research into integration within established drug development pipelines.
