Elixir Games Partners with Square Enix to Drive Mass Adoption of Web3 Gaming
In Brief
The partnership will allow traditional gamers to explore quality web3 games through a platform that hides web3 technology under the hood.
Square Enix previously co-led Elixir Games’ seed round in December 2022.
Elixir Games, a Madrid-based web3 gaming distribution platform, has entered a strategic partnership with Japanese gaming giant Square Enix to onboard web2 gamers into web3 gaming.
The partnership will allow traditional gamers to explore quality web3 games through a platform that hides web3 technology under the hood. Elixir Games provides a full-service system for developers and publishers to build or integrate blockchain-based web3 economies into their games. Its tools can be added to pre-existing game economies or built into the design of a new game from the ground up.
Elixir Games has developed two products: a PC launcher and a multiplayer battle royale game titled No Way Back. The Elixir PC launcher is a cross-chain end-to-end solution for distributing, updating, and installing web3 games, but with the web2 functionality that Steam brings. It includes features such as importing NFTs from top marketplaces, referral systems for game tokens, launchpads, guild dashboards, and others.
Last December, Square Enix co-led Elixir Games’ seed round. Following a recent integration with Epic Games, Elixir Games has become a distributor of traditional games alongside web3 desktop titles.
Square Enix has been expanding its web3 gaming strategy since 2022. The company released Final Fantasy NFTs with Enjin, and will soon be launching a gamified NFT art experience, Symbiogenesis, in partnership with Polygon. The Japanese gaming conglomerate has also partnered with Japanese mobile gaming company, Gumi, to develop mobile games, blockchain games, and a metaverse initiative.
Commenting on today’s news in a press release shared with Metaverse Post, Hideaki Uehara, Business Development Director at Square Enix, said: “This partnership with Elixir Games represents yet another step for Square Enix to explore the promise of web3- decentralized gaming.”
Carlos Roldan, CEO of Elixir Games, added: “This partnership brings us closer to web3 gaming mass adoption. Our team is incredibly excited to bring our technology to work, and we foresee Elixir users playing web2 and web3 games alike without distinction. 2023 has already seen more industry leaders enter the space with impactful projects, and we anticipate seeing more as the year progresses.”
More information on the partnership will be announced in the coming months.
