2023

The founder and CEO of Baidu, Robin Li, spoke at the Shenzhen 2023 X-Lake Forum about the recent growth of the AI sector in China. According to him, the Ernie Bot big model’s API calls have grown exponentially since the model’s launch on August 31. “Over 200 major models are produced in the country; they rank and appear on our list, but their real usage is rather modest. According to Robin Li, “the usage of Ernie Bot’s large model alone surpasses the combined usage of these over 200 large models.”

Additionally, Robin Li discussed the three “drivers” of the AI-native age. The first is an explosion of AI-native apps, propelled by strong underlying models. The second is an open attitude that embraces the AI era, and CEOs and other high-ranking officials must lead this. A flourishing ecosystem of AI-native apps is the third, and it will propel economic expansion. He said that 238 big models had been introduced in China as of October 2023. “Too many big models exist, but not enough native AI applications have been created to use them.It would be a huge waste of resources to keep creating enormous, simple models.
