Omar Sultan Al Olama, Minister of State for Artificial Intelligence in the United Arab Emirates

In 2017, Omar Sultan Al Olama was named the UAE’s Minister of State for Artificial Intelligence, making history as the first minister in the world in this area. His responsibilities were extended to encompass applications for remote work and the digital economy in July 2020. He was also named the Ministry of Cabinet Affairs’ Director General of the Prime Minister’s Office in 2023.

UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres has appointed Omar Al Olama, the UAE’s Minister of State for Artificial Intelligence, Digital Economy, and Remote Work Applications, to the High-Level Advisory Body on Artificial Intelligence. There are 38 members of the UN body, including government leaders, high-tech entrepreneurs, and professionals and experts in AI. According to Mr. Al Olama, the UAE’s leadership in the area is reflected in his membership in the body.
