His position was enlarged to Senior Vice President for Research, Technology, and Society in April 2023. This new position covers management of Google Research and Google Labs, as well as a broader emphasis on responsibly advancing Google’s most ambitious discoveries in computing, science, and artificial intelligence. Additionally, he serves as the McKinsey Global Institute’s Chairman Emeritus.
A new Artificial Intelligence Advisory Body on dangers, possibilities, and international regulation of artificial intelligence was announced by the UN Secretary-General. The efforts of the international community to regulate artificial intelligence will be assisted by that body. James Manyika is one of the group’s co-chairs.
An important step in the UN’s attempts to address concerns about the international regulation of artificial intelligence is the creation of the AI Advisory Body. The new project will promote an inclusive global approach by utilizing the UN’s special capacity to bring people together as a universal platform for discussing important issues.
Experts from academia, government, business, research, and civil society will come together at the Body, and its gender-neutral, international, and multidisciplinary composition will enable it to play a special role in advancing AI for the benefit of mankind. In order to facilitate communication with various ongoing and upcoming projects on AI governance, the Body plans to release preliminary proposals by the end of 2023 and final recommendations by the summer of 2024, in time for the Summit of the Future.
