Brockman studied at Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and Harvard University, both of which he left early. He developed and oversaw computer systems while at Harvard as a member of the Harvard Computer Society. He kept up with projects like XVM, Linerva, and scripts when he was a student at MIT.mit.edu. He left MIT to work on the development of Stripe. From 2010 until 2015, Brockman led Stripe as its CTO. He left MIT to assist in the creation of the firm and joined it at its inception. Brockman observed the company’s growth from 4 to 250 people while he was there.
In order to cofound OpenAI alongside Elon Musk, Sam Altman, and Ilya Sutskever in 2015, Brockman resigned from his role as CTO at Stripe. A nonprofit group called OpenAI is committed to developing artificial intelligence (AI) in a safe manner and making sure that everyone benefits from it. Former chairman and president of OpenAI was Brockman. He not only cofounded the business but also co-led the bot’s development at OpenAI.

On November 17, 2023, Greg Brockman was informed that he would be leaving the board of OpenAI along with Sam Altman’s termination. Despite this, Greg Brockman will continue to serve as the company’s key employee and report directly to the CEO. Later that day, he made his resignation from the firm known on X.
Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella said on November 20, 2023, that Brockman and Sam Altman, the former CEO of OpenAI, would be joining the company to head a new advanced AI research division. After an agreement was struck to restore Altman to his position as CEO, Brockman rejoined OpenAI the next day.
