Entertainment giant Walt Disney Co. is expanding its Metaverse presence, calling it the “Next Generation Storytelling Creative Experiences at Disney.” Michael White, Senior VP of Next Generation Storytelling and Consumer Experiences, has hired Mark Bozon, a former Apple executive, to lead the creative Metaverse strategy of Disney.
According to the entertainment juggernaut, Bozon’s experience makes him an excellent fit for the position. Bozon has worked for Apple Arcade, the App Store, IGN, and Electronic Gaming Monthly in the last two decades. In addition, he dedicated the last 12 years of his career to the management of creative production and gaming at Apple.
Bozon will build a team that will focus on immersive experiences and developing Disney’s Metaverse expansion strategy.
In October 2021, the company created an NFT collection in partnership with VeVe, an app-based digital collectibles marketplace. The collection features Disney characters and items from movies and series.
In March 2022, former Disney CEO Bob Iger invested in Genies Inc., a company that specializes in digital characters and virtual worlds.
Following moves like these, expect Walt Disney Co. to launch either a gaming Metaverse or maybe a Metaverse-based amusement park in the near future.
