Epic Games and CLO Virtual Fashion Invest in Each Other to Integrate Fashion and Entertainment in the Metaverse
In Brief
Epic Games and CLO Virtual Fashion have invested in each other’s companies to integrate fashion and entertainment in the metaverse, although the value of the investments has not been disclosed.
CLO Virtual Fashion is a digital fashion brand that offers 3D garment design software, a marketplace, and a collaboration platform.
Epic Games, the renowned video game and software company behind the popular Unreal Engine, and CLO Virtual Fashion, a developer of digital garment solutions including CLO and Marvelous Designer, have made a significant move towards digitalization. The two companies have purchased shares in each other, aiming to integrate fashion and entertainment in the metaverse. Although the exact value of the investments was not disclosed, this strategic partnership is a clear indication of Epic Game’s interest in expanding its metaverse to include virtual fashion.
CLO Virtual Fashion is a prominent player in the digital fashion sector, offering a range of products, including 3D garment design software, a digital CMS and collaboration platform, and an open marketplace for buying, selling, and showcasing realistic garment designs. The company strives to simplify integrated workflows for 3D designers, character artists, animators, and fashion experts, ultimately creating true-to-life clothing options for games and metaverses. CLO Virtual Fashion’s fashion design software is already compatible with Epic’s Unreal Engine, along with a platform that facilitates the buying and selling garment designs.
According to Simon Kim, the CEO of CLO Virtual Fashion, the company firmly believes digital garments will have a major impact on the future of digital entertainment and metaverse platforms. The goal is to create fashion and entertainment that converge with the metaverse, leading to the digitization of everything.
“Bringing high-quality digital fashion into real-time virtual worlds is complex and can be a creative barrier for digital fashion creators. It is exciting to see how CLO Virtual Fashion’s solutions work with Unreal Engine to help designers across industries make life-like digital fashion garments,”
said Kim Libreri, Chief Technology Officer at Epic Games.
The prominence of fashion in the metaverse is steadily increasing. During the Metaverse Fashion Week a few months ago, major clothing brands presented their collections on virtual catwalks across Decentraland, Spatial, and OVER metaverses. In addition to fashion shows, companies offered digital experiences and interactive games.
Fashion brands are actively creating digital experiences in the virtual worlds, especially in Roblox. Supermodel Karlie Kloss recently launched an immersive digital fashion experience, “Fashion Klossette,” joining Gucci, H&M, Burberry, and Tommy Hilfiger.
DressX, a leading digital fashion brand, secured $15 million in Series A funding in March, demonstrating its commitment to shaping the future of virtual fashion.
