Chainlink Releases CCIP V1.5 Upgrade, Unveiling CCIP Cross-Chain Token Standard
In Brief
Chainlink introduces the CCIP v1.5 upgrade, which focuses on scaling the number of tokens integrated with CCIP and simplifying its use for developers.
Decentralized computing platform, Chainlink announced the launch of its CCIP v1.5 upgrade, which enhances the Cross-Chain Interoperability Protocol (CCIP), focused on massively scaling the number of tokens integrated with CCIP and making the protocol easier than ever for developers to use.
The upgrade is currently live on all supported blockchain testnets and is expected to be available on blockchain mainnets soon.
One of the key features of this upgrade is the introduction of the Cross-Chain Token (CCT) standard, allowing token developers to integrate both new and existing tokens with CCIP in a self-serve manner within minutes. CCTs are cross-chain native tokens secured by CCIP, offering self-service deployment, full control and ownership for developers, enhanced programmability, and zero-slippage transfers—all supported by CCIP’s security framework.
Importantly, CCTs are token logic agnostic, meaning that token developers can use pre-audited token pool contracts to convert any ERC20-compatible token into a CCT, or they can create their own custom token pool contracts tailored for specific use cases. This design allows developers to maintain independence from any CCIP-specific code in their token’s smart contract.
New Upgrade Introduces Token Developer Attestation And CCIP Token Manager Features, Enhancing User Experience
Furthermore, CCIP v1.5 features a new Token Developer Attestation function, allowing token developers to opt into an additional verification layer for their CCTs. This feature enables them to attest to token burn or lock events on source blockchains before CCIP can mint or unlock tokens on destination blockchains. The Token Developer Attestation feature is currently in private beta.
Once available on blockchain mainnets, token developers will also benefit from the CCIP Token Manager, an easy-to-use web interface for deploying new CCTs and managing existing ones. This interface will include no-code guided deployments and configuration tools. Furthermore, the CCIP v1.5 upgrade introduces several improvements to enhance the developer experience, including a new CCIP SDK, enhancements to the CCIP Explorer, and additional security and privacy features.
Among other advantages, this upgrade also includes various improvements to the security and functionality of CCIP, such as Risk Management Network Enhancements, Out of Order (OOO) Message Execution, and CCIP Private Transactions.
Chainlink is the leading standard for creating, accessing, and monetizing oracle services essential for enabling hybrid smart contracts across various blockchains. Its oracle networks facilitate reliable connections for smart contracts to any external API, utilizing secure off-chain computations to support complex and feature-rich applications.
Currently, Chainlink secures assets totaling tens of billions of dollars across sectors such as decentralized finance (DeFi), insurance, gaming, and several other industries. It provides global enterprises and top data providers with a universal access point to all blockchain networks.
