Adobe Unveils AI-Powered Image Generator for Photoshop
In Brief
Adobe has announced the integration of generative AI technology into Photoshop, including the Generative Fill feature.
Generative Fill enables users to enhance, extend, or remove content from their images using simple text prompts.
Generative Fill is powered by Firefly, a group of generative AI models, which have been trained on high-resolution images from Adobe Stock to ensure originality and respect for intellectual property.
Adobe has unveiled its plans to integrate generative AI technology into its widely popular Photoshop program. This development, known as Generative Fill, introduces a groundbreaking suite of AI-powered capabilities to inspire users creatively, enabling them to enhance, extend, or remove content from their images without causing any destructive effects.
With the tool, Photoshop enthusiasts can employ a text prompt akin to those used by Dall-E and Midjourney to upgrade their images. Users can then achieve astonishingly realistic results within seconds.
Generative Fill is powered by Firefly – a family of creative generative AI models. Firefly has been extensively trained using Adobe Stock’s vast collection of high-resolution images. Its meticulous training process ensures that Firefly does not generate any content derived from the work, brands, or intellectual property of others.
Generative Fill allows the following features and many more:
- Generate objects
- Generate backgrounds
- Extend images
- Remove objects
Generative Fill goes beyond mere content generation, automatically matching perspective, lighting, and style, freeing users from tedious tasks. Another standout advantage of Generative Fill is its ability to accelerate creativity. As Adobe wrote in its blog post, users can create at the speed of thought, exploring offbeat ideas, conceptualizing different approaches, and producing numerous variations within seconds.
Adobe introduced its generative AI-powered services in March as part of the latest release of Adobe Experience Manager. Currently in beta, Firefly integrates into various Adobe products, including Creative Cloud, Document Cloud, Experience Cloud, and Adobe Express. Last month, the company unveiled a Vector Recoloring tool for Adobe Illustrator as part of its suite of creative generative AI models called Adobe Firefly. The tool uses generative AI to adjust the color scheme of vector-based images and is currently available for public beta testing.
