Telos Announces zkEVM Roadmap With Mainnet Launch Set For 2025

Organization dedicated to supporting the development of the Telos (TLOS) blockchain, Telos Foundation announced a roadmap, which details the development plan for its SNARKtor-powered Zero-Knowledge Ethereum Virtual Machine (zkEVM) with hardware acceleration.

The primary objective outlined in the announcement is to facilitate the creation of fast and cost-effective decentralized applications (dApps) that utilize zero-knowledge (ZK) technology. The Telos zkEVM will use TLOS and will roll up on Ethereum. It aims to enhance cryptographic operations, such as Fast Fourier Transforms (FFT) and hashing functions, by utilizing hardware acceleration. Additionally, SNARKtor will be incorporated to improve the efficiency of attestations on Layer 1 and to streamline the verification process for dApps’ ZK proofs.

According to the roadmap, Telos plans to launch the TLOS Hardware Accelerated zkEVM in a testnet by Q4 2024. The initiative will prioritize making TLOS the primary Layer 2 token while optimizing two essential cryptographic operations of the zkEVM prover through hardware acceleration. This optimization will include FFT Acceleration, which aims to shorten the computation time required for proof generation. Additionally, enhancements in Merkle Tree and Hash Function Acceleration will boost the efficiency of proof generation.

In Q1 2025, Telos intends to deploy this version on the Ethereum mainnet, which will introduce benefits such as reduced computational costs and faster proof generation to the mainnet environment. This advancement will enable builders and users to take advantage of the enhanced performance of the zkEVM in practical applications.

Telos To Initiate SNARKtor Integration In Testnet And Mainnet

In Q2 2025, it plans to implement the initial integration of SNARKtor in the testnet. This integration will enable the zkEVM to aggregate its proofs using SNARKtor, thereby streamlining and enhancing the verification process on Layer 1. Moving into Q3 2025, Telos aims to introduce the Full SNARKtor Integration in the testnet, which will involve both the aggregation of zkEVM proofs and the incorporation of SNARKtor into the zkEVM framework. This advancement will facilitate the development of dApps that utilize ZK proofs.

By Q4 2025, Telos intends to deploy the Full SNARKtor Integration on the mainnet, aligning with the earlier testnet phases from Q2 and Q3 of 2025. By the conclusion of Q4 2025, the complete suite of features—including hardware acceleration, SNARKtor integration, and efficient proof handling—will be operational on the mainnet, providing a strong solution for ZK proofs on Ethereum with the use of the TLOS.

Telos operates as a Delegated Proof of Stake (DPOS) Layer 1 blockchain that provides developers with compatibility and a strong set of tools for creating and deploying smart contracts. Its Telos EVM is designed for high scalability and cost-effectiveness.
