OpenAI Announces the Bug Bounty Program, Offers Awards up to $20,000 for Bug Discoveries

Artificial intelligence research and development company OpenAI announced the opening of the “Bug Bounty Program.”
The organization behind the viral chatbot ChatGPT aims to make its services secure, reliable, and trustworthy. So, the new program is designed to incentivize security researchers, technology enthusiasts, and ethical hackers to find and report potential vulnerabilities, bugs, and security flaws in OpenAI systems.
OpenAI accepts or rejects 75% of submissions within about two hours. Following this, the company awards rewards based on the severity of the issue.
The Bug Bounty Program will reward individuals from $200 for low-severity findings to $6,500. The maximum possible reward awarded for exceptional discoveries is $20,000. Interested individuals can find more information on a dedicated page.
“Your expertise and vigilance will have a direct impact on keeping our systems and users secure,”
states OpenAI’s official announcement.
On a side note, OpenAI partnered with the crowdsourced security platform Bugcrowd to enable the Bug Bounty Program. Individuals can participate by signing up with their emails or using a “@bugcrowdninja.com” address.

OpenAI’s announcement follows OpenAI CEO Sam Altman’s meeting with Japan’s Prime Minister Fumio Kishida. The Japanese government plans to integrate artificial intelligence into its system, and Altman promised to collaborate to safeguard user privacy and safety regarding ChatGPT.
