Google Extends Generative AI Search Experience to India and Japan

In Brief

Google is introducing its Search Generative Experience (SGE) to users in India and Japan, leveraging generative AI to offer enhanced search capabilities.

By catering to local languages and incorporating features like language toggles and voice inputs, the SGE enables users to interact conversationally with AI-driven search, fostering deeper engagement with information.

Google is launching its Search Generative Experience (SGE) in India and Japan. The search engine giant enables users in these countries to tap into generative AI for enhanced search capabilities, facilitating a quicker understanding of complex topics, and streamlining tasks.

After witnessing positive results in the U.S., Google has expanded its generative AI capabilities to allow users to understand intricate subjects and accomplish tasks more efficiently.

According to the blog post, by embracing local languages and providing features like a language toggle and voice input, the SGE enables users in these countries to interact conversationally with AI-driven search. In addition, relevant web page link integration into AI-powered overviews enhances the user experience by facilitating deeper information exploration.

The expansion marks a significant stride towards a more intelligent and accessible search experience. Users can participate and contribute feedback to this generative AI experiment via Google’s Search Labs on mobile and desktop platforms.

Since May, Google has been advancing search by adding generative AI, which makes searching faster and easier, helping users understand topics, find new perspectives, and do tasks more easily. The AI gives short summaries with important info and links for more details.

Google’s AI tools also help with shopping. The AI-powered Shopping Graph, which has over 35 billion products, shows detailed snapshots of items. It includes reviews, ratings, prices, and pictures, which help people decide what to buy. Moreover, Google guides users to web content and keeps ads separate from regular search results in clear slots.

The generative AI experience facilitates users in delving into diverse viewpoints and acts as a starting point for exploring online content. Recent testing has revealed ongoing experimentation aimed at simplifying the process for users to locate and navigate the web pages that substantiate the data presented in AI-driven summaries.

“During testing, we’ve learned that people find it easier and more understandable when access to these links is presented within the overview itself,”

Google wrote.

Starting now, whenever users spot a unique arrow symbol beside information in these AI summaries, they can click on it to access web pages with additional details. This feature is currently active in the U.S. and will soon roll out in Japan and India.
