This August you won’t need a NASA-sized budget to feel like you’re traveling into space. Thanks to virtual reality production studio Felix & Paul and Meta Quest, you’ll be able to participate over VR in the launch of an unmanned Orion CM-002 spacecraft from the Kennedy Space Center in Cape Canaveral, Florida.

Felix & Paul and their partners will stream the launch in 8K, 360-degree VR and viewers will have access to the immersive experience via Horizon Worlds Venues as well as the Space Explorers Facebook page. There will also be 360-degree streaming platforms available via 5G in various locations and broadcasts to planetariums.

Creative Director and co-founder of Felix & Paul Studios Felix Lajeunesse said in a statement that “This first immersive live-streaming is part of our ongoing mission which started with our Space Explorers series, to bring the public along for the ride on humanity’s next giant leap in human space exploration.”

The August launch is one of the initial steps in NASA’s Artemis-1 mission. It seeks to certify Orion and its Space Launch System for future crewed missions. According to NASA’s Artemis page, the space agency “will land the first woman and first person of color on the Moon” by 2024 and “explore more of the lunar surface than ever before.”
