Art Blocks Launches “Human Unreadable,” Challenging the Limits of Digital and Physical Art

Art Blocks is releasing a new project in partnership with the award-winning duo Operator through a generative art and tech experience on May 24. Together, they aim to create a blockchain-based artwork that illustrates the beauty and imperfections of human nature.
This unique generative art experience entitled “Human Unreadable” combines coding, blockchain tech, and choreography. Each artwork includes a choreographic sequence that encapsulates human recovery in three stages: “Reveal,” available from May 24, “Decipher,” available starting from summer, and ‘”Witness,” which will be available from the fourth quarter of 2023.
May 24 will see the first batch of generative art pieces released. Then, each holder can create a choreographic sequence beneath each NFT they mint starting this summer. The first 100 collectibles will create a live performance by the end of 2023. As each digital asset reveals a choreographic sequence, Operator will eventually use it in a live performance.
Operator was created by artists Ania Catherine and Dejha Ti in 2016 as an experimental art practice. They combine web3 tech with invaluable human imperfections, art, and soul in their works. In 2021, the duo won the Lumen Prize for the “I’d Rather Be in a Dark Silence than” project, which uses mainly blockchain technology.
The new project, “Human Unreadable,” expresses vulnerability, risk, and confusion in our natural condition.
“In Human Unreadable, as a metaphor for people hiding in plain sight, we took instances of raw human expression (movement), obfuscated them, and created a process for collectors to uncover the vulnerability buried beneath the work. We consider this three-act experience the slow recovery of the human. What you don’t immediately see in the visual artwork outputs is the invisible potentiality of performance, inscripted on-chain and able to be brought to life by a dancer at any moment,” said Operator.
