Amazon has recently launched a new service called Amazon Anywhere that allows users to shop on the platform in augmented reality (AR). This development in online shopping technology means that customers can now make purchases across different apps and games without having to exit them.

Amazon showcased the platform through an AR mobile game Peridot from Niantic, the developers of Pokemon GO and Harry Potter: Wizards Unite. Within that game, customers can access a merchandise page and complete their orders without ever leaving the game (as demonstrated in their promotional video). All customers need to do is link their Amazon marketplace account to the game, and they can begin shopping in AR.

The introduction of Amazon Anywhere has revolutionized the way we shop online, especially for gamers. Before, if someone wanted to purchase an in-game item while playing a game, they would have to exit the game and search the seller’s website to complete the purchase. Now, this is a thing of the past, and the process has been simplified with Amazon Anywhere.

If you’re a developer interested in integrating Amazon Anywhere into your game or app, go to the request form on the Amazon website.

Amazon Anywhere’s launch has also sparked rumors that the company is planning to release a new AR smart home gadget. This theory has been fueled by Amazon posting and then quickly removing job listings related to such a venture. It will be interesting to see if this new platform is one of the many components of the potential AR smart home device.

Amazon Anywhere has taken online shopping technology to the next level. This platform has made it possible for customers to purchase without leaving their favorite apps or games, with the integration of AR technology adding even more convenience to the online shopping experience. Amazon looks to be following in its fellow tech giant’s footsteps, with plenty of further shifts in the world of e-commerce likely to deepen this trend of bringing augmented reality into the modern shopping experience.
