A businessman is shocked to learn that an AI bot has accused him of being behind the 1992 bombing of a shopping mall.
A man was shocked after an artificial intelligence chatbot wrongly labeled him an IRA terrorist. When the Baltic Exchange maritime London membership organisation was bombed by the Provisional IRA in 1992, three people died and 91 were injured. CEO Jim Buckley survived the attack.
A 79year old decided to see if ChatGPT works for him. When he entered his name, occupation, and ‘IRA bombing’ into ChatGPT, the application said he was responsible for the attack.
According to the Daily Star, the bot said: “Jim Buckley was an Irish republican parliamentary and member of the Provisional Irish Republican Army (IRA) who was responsible for the 1992 Baltic Exchange bombing.” He was convicted on all counts and sentenced to life in 1993.
The bot then continued to claim Mr Buckley was behind the attack when he tried to correct the error, rejecting that he was the chief of the Baltic Exchange. In light of the error, the businessman said: ‘However, it is very important to be careful when relying on artificial intelligence. This could be quite serious.
A humanlike text response to a given prompt can be generated by the ChatGPT language model. OpenAI said its ChatGPT model has been trained using Reinforcement Learning from Human Feedback (RLHF) technology. It can answer follow-up questions, challenge incorrect premises, accept or reject inappropriate requests, and provide dialogue.

As a result, the Chinese authorities have threatened to ban it if it continues to be used for political purposes.
