Gate Update: Gate Money Strategy, Stock-Futures Gains and Stablecoin Push Define Exchange’s Week
In Brief
Gate Update: Gate details its Gate Money strategy, reports second-place stock-futures rankings amid a Korean sell-off, joins Open Standard, and launches new listings and campaigns.

Gate’s latest announcements show an exchange trying to present itself as a multi-asset financial platform. In an interview with Bitcoin.com, founder and CEO Dr. Han described Gate Money, launched on Oct. 7, as a single account for fiat, crypto, gold, ETFs and more than 12,800 global stocks. Under that model, the required asset is converted to fiat at the point of sale, so capital stays invested until the moment it is spent. Gate says the platform serves over 61 million users in 130+ countries and regions.
The market data points the same way. As Japanese and South Korean equities sold off, with the Nikkei 225 down 4.90% to 64,425.95 and the KOSPI down 7.56% to 5,554.27, Gate reported second-place global rankings in open interest for two memory-sector stock derivatives. According to CoinGlass, SK Hynix stood at 147,300 units (15.8% of the global market) and SanDisk at 108,900 units (18.15%).
Gate US also joined Open Standard, a group of more than 200 partners, including Visa, Mastercard, Stripe, Coinbase and Shopify, that is working on interoperable stablecoin infrastructure. Gate US holds 37 state-level Money Transmitter Licenses and serves customers across 47 U.S. states and territories.
This edition of Gate Update looks at how the Gate Money strategy was presented across the week’s interviews, how the exchange’s derivatives positioning looks against market conditions, and which listings and campaigns are now running.
Gate Money: The Strategy Across Several Platforms
Gate’s leadership discussed the Gate Money strategy in several outlets this week. At TOKEN2049 Singapore, Executive Director Edwin Cheung told AlphaWire that payments are a key near-term growth area, serving individuals and businesses with everyday financial needs beyond trading. Gate Money lets users open a global electronic bank account in their own name through the Gate App. As the rollout continues, they are also to receive payments in more than 60 local currencies.
Cheung said stablecoins can reduce the number of correspondent banks in cross-border transfers and improve the transparency of fund movements. He expects them to coexist with bank transfers, instant payments and QR-code payments. For institutional clients, he pointed to liquidity and counterparty risk as the main concerns. Gate’s OES off-exchange settlement lets institutions keep assets with third-party custodians while still accessing Gate’s liquidity and trading services, and proof of reserves adds asset transparency. In his view, licenses, risk management and cooperation with regulators will underpin growth.
On Oct. 15, Dr. Han took part in a CoinMarketCap AMA under the theme “One Gate, Everything Money.” He said the future of digital finance lies in connecting assets, money and payments rather than simply offering more asset choices. Gate says its stock trading system now supports more than 12,800 stocks and ETFs across the US, Hong Kong, South Korea and Japan. The discussion also covered how real stocks, tokenized stocks and stock perpetual futures differ, and the role of stablecoins and tokenization in cross-border transfers and on-chain settlement. Users in eligible regions can open an electronic bank account and use Gate Card for online and offline payments in fiat or digital assets. Gate says it will keep expanding the asset classes and payment methods Gate Money supports.
In a separate interview with TechFlow, Dr. Han reflected on the company’s 13-year history and described everyday financial services as its next growth phase. On competition, he argued that comprehensive financial services depend less on adding products than on localized experiences, financial infrastructure and institutional partnerships. He also said platforms should be transparent about yield sources and risk profiles, which vary across asset classes. He expects AI to lower the barrier to financial services and improve capital efficiency.
Market Conditions and Derivatives Positioning
Gate’s institutional weekly report describes a difficult week for crypto. Resilient U.S. data and elevated oil prices pushed the 10-year Treasury yield to a high of 5.36%, while U.S. equities rose on AI optimism. Crypto weakened amid high rates, ETF redemptions and deleveraging. BTC fell 3.31% and ETH more than 7%, and spot BTC and ETH ETFs recorded net outflows of about $679 million and $542 million. On-chain liquidity contracted as well: stablecoin supply fell by roughly $900 million and outstanding Aave loans dropped 4.3%.
BTC open interest declined 2.46%, and option skews turned negative across all tenors, which the report reads as a defensive stance among institutions. Gate TradFi logged roughly $90 billion in weekly volume, concentrated in indices, ETFs and U.S. equities. Gate says it is responding with a broader multi-asset suite covering spot, futures, stocks, ETFs and options, supported by OES and CrossEx infrastructure.
Prices moved higher on Oct. 16, according to CoinGlass. BTC traded near $81,804.8 (+1.21% over 24 hours) and ETH near $2,426.43 (+2.91%). BTC futures volume was about $68.649 billion (−7.69%) and ETH futures volume about $45.335 billion (−19.73%). Gate recorded roughly $7.47 billion in BTC futures volume and $6.58 billion in ETH futures volume, a top-three position for both assets.
CoinGecko data on 24-hour open interest ranks Binance first at $33.457 billion, Hyperliquid second at $15.430 billion and Gate third at $13.471 billion among global derivatives exchanges.
Stock derivatives are where Gate is showing the most momentum. CoinGlass data places it second in stock futures behind Binance, with open interest of $144 million in SPCX (14.65% share) and $143 million in SOXL (23.92%), alongside the SK Hynix and SanDisk rankings above. Gate Stock Futures now cover more than 450 underlying stocks across the U.S., Hong Kong, Korea and Japan. A new Innovation Section offers up to 75x leverage and launched with 40 contracts, including CXMT, Unitree Robotics and CATL.
Gate also launched pre-market perpetual futures for JIOUSDT (Jio Platforms) in its Stocks section. The contract is USDT-settled, supports long and short positions with 1–10x leverage, and is meant to support price discovery before an IPO, since Jio Platforms is not yet publicly listed. Gate says its Stocks section now offers futures on 476 stocks in total.
