Sotheby’s and Unicorn DAO Auction NFTs by Noted Female Artists to Celebrate Women’s Day

Auction house Sotheby’s and Unicorn DAO celebrate International Women’s Day by auctioning non-fungible tokens created by noted female artists. The auction sale, named “My Body My Business,” was curated by Pussy Riot creator Nadya Tolokonnikova.

It features 32 physical and digital pieces by Marina Abramović, Ellen Von Unwerth, Michele Pred, Sofia Crespo, Glam Beckett, Jenny Holzer, Cindy Sherman, Zhanna Kadyrova, Katie Bush, Fawn Rogers, Annie Sprinkle, and other well-known international artists. Individuals can participate in the auction on a dedicated page through March 14.

It’s worth noting that a portion of proceeds from sales will go to reproductive healthcare organizations, including Planned Parenthood.

“I created My Body My Business in 2015 as a response to the increasing pressure on (and within) the US government to dictate women’s decisions concerning our own bodies,” artist Michele Pred explains the idea behind her work.

Unicorn DAO was founded in 2021 by a member of the feminist group Pussy Riot, Nadezhda Tolokonnikova. The organization focuses on promoting gender-fluid utopias and fights for reproductive rights.

In May 2022, Unicorn DAO received $4.5 million from such noted industry players as ConsenSys Mesh, Collab + Currency, Yuga Labs, MoonPay, NFT project World of Women, and Beeple, among others.

Tolokonnikova has previously released other NFT collections with the scope to fight for reproductive rights and feminism. In July 2022, the Pussy Riot collective partnered with digital artist Ksti Hu to issue “Proof of Protest” NFTs. In January this year, Tolokonnikova and renowned photographer Ellen von Unwerth released an NFT collection on the Coinbase marketplace.
