IBM and Microsoft Collaborate to Enhance Generative AI Impact for Businesses

IBM today announced that it is expanding its partnership with Microsoft to accelerate the deployment of generative AI solutions for its joint enterprise clients.

Both companies will introduce a new offering aimed at equipping clients with the essential expertise and technology required to streamline their business processes and scale generative AI capabilities.

In collaboration with Microsoft, IBM Consulting will focus on guiding clients through the implementation and expansion of Azure OpenAI Service, via the newly introduced IBM Consulting Azure OpenAI Service solution.

According to the company, this fully managed AI service will allow developers and data scientists to apply powerful large language models, including their GPT and Codex series. It aims to help businesses in formulating a strategic adoption plan, while also identifying distinctive and value-added generative AI use cases.

As part of the offering, enterprise clients also will gain access to IBM Consulting’s pool of experts. It will include 21,000 consultants specializing in data, AI, and experience who can assist in the implementation of generative AI models to drive business transformation.

IBM Consulting recently announced a Center of Excellence for generative AI, housing over 1,000 specialized consultants with specialized generative AI expertise.

Use Cases for IBM-Microsoft Azure OpenAI Service

The companies announced an extensive collaboration on creating new use cases for AI, including:

  • Procurement Enhancement: The solution will merge Microsoft Power Platform and Azure OpenAI Service, optimizing sourcing and procurement processes. It delivers insights into supply chain dynamics, enhancing efficiency, saving time, and generating actionable insights.
  • Content Summarization for Finance: Financial institutions will be able to explore generative AI for quicker personalized content creation. IBM Consulting and Microsoft’s partnership with Julius Baer Group showcased during a hackathon, summarizing financial reports efficiently, even generating audio versions.
  • Automated Healthcare Processes: IBM Consulting will utilize Azure OpenAI Service to automate healthcare’s prior authorization. It analyzes complex medical records and policy documents, expediting requests. A virtual assistant aids medical professionals in information collection from patient records, improving experiences and reducing admin burdens.

IBM Consulting and Microsoft have joined forces to tackle the issue of scattered information within organizations. Their collaboration resulted in the deployment of a knowledge extraction tool at Wintershall Dea, a prominent gas and oil company.

By integrating Optical Character Recognition (OCR) and Microsoft Azure OpenAI, this tool streamlines information retrieval from vast knowledge repositories, eliminating manual searching.

IBM’s AI technology for generative models is now available on Azure Marketplace, offering accessible data readiness. Users can deploy this technology on Azure, solidifying the growing momentum in business transformation between IBM and Microsoft.

IBM Consulting said that its global Azure Data and AI practice has trained its consultants, leading to over 40,000 Azure certifications.

“Together, Microsoft and IBM are collaborating to deliver innovative solutions that will help customers responsibly accelerate deployment of generative AI,” Dinis Couto, GM Global Partner Solutions, Microsoft, said in a statement. As a leader in the delivery of generative AI and data solutions, we believe that partners like IBM are critical to enabling customers successful use of generative AI to advance business transformation.
