Cosmos SDK Releases Olympus, Its Newest Version Of Software Development Kit
In Brief
Cosmos released the latest version of SDK, Olympus, which introduces a variety of new features, improvements, and performance enhancements.
Decentralized network of blockchains, Cosmos released the latest version of its Cosmos SDK, named Olympus, which introduces a variety of new features, improvements, and performance enhancements.
A notable development in this update is the modularization of the SDK, which separates it into distinct components. This change enables developers to use the core functionalities of the Cosmos SDK independently, without relying on predefined modules such as staking, governance, and distribution. This increased flexibility is essential for builders aiming to create customized solutions that meet their specific requirements.
One of the important features in Olympus is the Protocol Pool module, which enables developers and community funding to be managed directly within the SDK, eliminating the need for vesting accounts. This enhancement streamlines the funding process and strengthens the governance capabilities of blockchain projects built on the Cosmos SDK.
Additionally, the governance framework has undergone substantial improvements, introducing various new proposal types aimed at refining the decision-making processes within communities to promote more effective and transparent governance.
Furthermore, the Accounts Module has been developed to expand account functionalities and create unique user experiences. This module is set to replace the current x/auth module in the future, facilitating the migration of existing users. Additionally, the Staking Module has been redesigned to incorporate consensus key rotation, enabling validators to change consensus keys avoiding the establishment of a new validator or requiring users to redelegate.
Transition To V2 Made Possible Through Olympus Integration
The Cosmos SDK was designed as a modular framework aimed at facilitating the development of application-specific blockchains, with the goal of enabling smooth interconnections between chains through the Inter-Blockchain Communication Protocol (IBC).
By integrating Olympus and its new features, developers will have the opportunity to transition to the latest version of the Cosmos SDK, known as V2. This upgrade, along with various improvements implemented, allows for the simplification of modules, reducing their reliance on multiple elements of the Cosmos SDK and possibly CometBFT.
Furthermore, Olympus marks the initial release of the Cosmos SDK to receive Long Term Support (LTS), which assures developers of a reliable and stable software environment for the foreseeable future.
