ASICS partners with STEPN and Solana to release sneakers for the Web3 community
In Brief
ASICS partnered with Solana and STEPN to launch running shoes for the Web3 community.
Buyers will have the chance to win an ASICS x STEPN NFT.
The sneakers will cost 200 USDC, and payment is only available via Solana Pay.
Japanese sports brand ASICS has announced a collaboration with blockchain platform Solana to release the exclusive ASICS X SOLANA UI (user interface) Collection. The collection inspires Web3 enthusiasts to balance their digital and physical activity.
The collection features a new line of custom-made, limited-edition GT-2000 11 running shoes. In addition to Solana, ASICS is partnering with Web3 lifestyle app STEPN, which will give customers a chance to win an exclusive ASICS x STEPN GT-2000 NFT. ASICS designed these sneakers specifically for the Web3 community to inspire them to move and be physically active.
The shoes are available for pre-order starting today, November 4, until November 8 and will cost $200 USDC (shipping included). Payment is only possible via Solana Pay, and only two designs will be available: white (for “light mode”) and black (for “dark mode”). The colors are inspired by computer and phone screen interfaces.
The ASICS X SOLANA UI Collection will be available for purchase on ui.asics.com. After the purchase, customers will obtain an ASICS Badge NFT, a digital collectible that provides access to ASICS experiences and rewards.
“We see a place for us to help in Web3 and bring products that inspire people to be physically active,”
said ASICS’ Web3 director Joe Pace.
The Japanese brand chose the Solana blockchain due to its fast and scalable network, as well as its low transaction fees.
“We want to be building our program on a blockchain that we know can scale globally from day one and beyond,”
Pace stated.
STEPN, a move-to-earn app built on Solana and launched in 2021, allows users to earn tokens by walking or running. Through the collaboration with ASICS, STEPN will reward GT-2000 NFT holders for physical activity with in-game tokens that unlock new features and can be used to mint new shoes.
In August, STEPN partnered with Spanish football club Atletico de Madrid and crypto trading platform WhaleFin to develop a football-themed NFT collection of 1,001 sneaker tokens.
On Tuesday, the parent company of STEPN, FindSatoshi Lab, launched an NFT marketplace called MOOAR. The marketplace will support Ethereum and Solana NFTs and charge members a monthly subscription fee of $29.90.
