Sports Illustrated’s fan ticketing site, SI Tickets, has launched “Box Office by SI Tickets,” a self-service event management and primary ticketing solution built in partnership with ConsenSys and powered by Polygon.

Box Office combines an NFT ticketing solution with traditional, non-NFT tickets for sports, concerts, and theater events on the SI Tickets marketplace. With Box Office, event organizers and hosts can create, manage and promote a fully scalable, paid or free ticketed live sporting event, performance or function using the Sports Illustrated platform.

As part of Box Office, SI Tickets and ConsenSys are teaming up to debut the Super Ticket. It is an NFT ticket solution that unlocks engagement opportunities between hosts and attendees before, during, and after events through perks like highlights, collectibles, exclusive offers, loyalty benefits, and more.

David Lane, CEO of SI Tickets, said in a press release that SI’s global event marketplace now boasts 50 million tickets to over 250,000 sports, concerts, and shows. He added that blockchain is the future of ticketing as owners, promoters, hosts, and attendees can transform a mobile ticket barcode into content, offers, rewards and engagement.

“We are excited about powering Box Office by Sports Illustrated Tickets with our web3 tools and infrastructure. It is thrilling to see disruptive web3 technology gaining traction through new use cases like NFT ticketing,” said Johnna Powell, Global Co-head at ConsenSys NFT.

Box Office claims to provide its partners with pricing that is up to 50% lower than its competitors, as well as the opportunity for hosts and/or performers to earn a portion of the proceeds from resales. For every ticket bought, customers receive complimentary credits that can be applied toward any sports, concerts, or theater events available on SITickets.com.

“Blockchain technology offers significant benefits for consumers, particularly ticketing, including enhancing payment security, and eliminating scalping and fraud,”

said Brian Trunzo, Head of Business Development, North America, for Polygon Labs.

Going forward, Box Office by SI Tickets will team up with owners, organizers and vendors across sports, health and fitness; concerts, comedy and nightlife; industry functions; and philanthropy and faith. Currently, SI Tickets is launching events from youth football, basketball, hockey, cheer and dance competitions to fashion shows and live music bars.
