Pro boxer Oleksandr Usyk releases NFTs to raise $2M for Ukraine
World heavyweight boxing champion Oleksandr Usyk is dropping NFT to support his homeland of Ukraine during the Russian invasion. The Crimea-born athlete teamed up with the sport NFT platform Blockasset and digital artist Dosbrak to launch 2,000 Solana and 2,000 Ethereum art NFTs. Usyk aims to raise around $2 million and send the profits to the Usyk Foundation to help Ukrainians affected by war.
The collection will launch before the high-profile fight against British champion Anthony Joshua. The Ukrainian boxer will also use the funds from the match to buy food, hygiene, and medical supplies for people suffering from the war. On top of that, a lucky NFT collector will get two tickets for Usyk’s fight with Joshua.
Irish artist Dosbrak has previously worked with UFC champion Connor McGregor and heavyweight champion Mike Tyson. Each NFT trait of Usyk’s NFT collection will be hand-painted by the famous artist, will reflect Usyk’s homeland Ukraine, and represent the boxer’s background, achievements, and personality.
At the moment, Usyk’s NFTs can be purchased prior to the mint day with a credit or debit card or USDC. Early buyers will get their NFTs delivered to their wallets after the collectibles launch. Usyk has already managed to raise $52,220, having sold 1,739 Solana NFTs for $200. Ethereum-based digital collectibles will launch soon.
“I appreciate the opportunity to link up with blockasset, who I regard as the Heavyweight Champions of sports NFTs. I’m a big fan of Dosbrak’s art, and it has been a pleasure to collaborate on this initiative, which I am sure will raise a considerable amount for our foundation,” Usyk said.
Prior to the preparation for the big fight, Usyk was serving in Kyiv’s territorial defense battalion. After the fight, the champion plans to immediately return to Ukraine.
Ukraine has been raising millions in crypto and NFTs. The government has created the NFT Museum of War, where people who wish to support the country’s freedom can purchase unique NFTs.
