MANTRA Chain Halts Network Operations After Detecting Upstream Vulnerability, Freezing All Transactions And Withdrawals

MANTRA Chain, a Layer 1 blockchain specializing in real-world asset (RWA) tokenization, has suspended all on-chain operations after detecting a security incident involving an upstream dependency vulnerability. The precautionary network halt, implemented in the early hours of August 21, has frozen all endpoints and transactions across the ecosystem, temporarily suspending user deposits and withdrawals while the team conducts a comprehensive investigation into the breach.

According to official project statements, the team identified an active attacker exploiting a vulnerability located in an upstream software dependency utilized by the chain’s infrastructure. The immediate suspension was enacted to prevent any further transaction processing, effectively immobilizing all asset movements on the network during the critical investigation phase. The engineering team has since isolated the vulnerability and is currently preparing and rigorously testing a patched software release.

MANTRA’s own validators and core infrastructure remain offline pending this upgrade, and the team has indicated that resuming the network will require a carefully coordinated restart involving the broader external validator set. The project has committed not to restore services until the patch is thoroughly verified and full coordination with node operators is securely in place. Users have been explicitly advised that no action is required on their part and should await verified updates exclusively through official channels, while remaining vigilant against fraudulent actors offering recovery or technical support assistance.

Institutional Backing and Ongoing Remediation

MANTRA has established a notable presence in the institutional blockchain landscape, having raised $11 million in early funding and subsequently launching a $108.8 million ecosystem fund aimed at accelerating RWA adoption and developer growth. Its roster of capital and strategic partners includes prominent traditional finance entities such as Nomura’s digital asset arm Laser Digital and Brevan Howard Digital.

The project is also widely recognized for the OM token, which experienced a severe market correction of approximately 90% within a short timeframe in April 2025, adding to the institutional and market scrutiny surrounding the current operational disruption.

In its latest operational update, MANTRA confirmed that its security and engineering divisions are working continuously alongside external partners to assess the full scope and financial impact of the incident. The team is actively tracing the movement of potentially compromised funds and has notified major exchange and ecosystem partners to coordinate protective measures across affected trading venues until validated operations resume.

No definitive timeline for network restoration has been established, with leadership emphasizing that the halt will remain in effect until all safety protocols and coordination requirements are fully satisfied. The team has pledged to provide regular updates at fixed intervals as remediation efforts, security testing, and validator coordination progress toward a secure, coordinated network restart.
