Disney’s expansion into Web3: plans to hire a corporate lawyer for NFTs and metaverse
In Brief
The media giant is on the lookout for an attorney to handle everything Web3-related
Ideal candidate must have a corporate law background, and experience in blockchain, NFTs, and cryptocurrency
With regulations on the horizon, Disney wants to be legally prepared to deepen its Web3 journey
The Walt Disney Company is searching for a corporate attorney to handle legal matters for the new area of the company – “Emerging technologies,” which includes metaverse, NFTs, and DeFi.
The largest entertainment conglomerate in the world listed the job post on Friday. The Corporate Transactions Group, within the legal department, will have a new experienced professional to deepen the company’s journey into Web3.
The job post specifies that the lawyer will provide “legal advice and support for global NFT products” for all Disney-related collaborations, including Disney Parks and products.
Other job responsibilities include performing due diligence for blockchain projects and drafting contract agreements. The attorney will supply legal advice to Disney’s team on everything NFT and crypto, as well as evaluate securities law issues concerning the sale and promotion of NFT projects.
The ideal candidate will have five to eight years of experience managing corporate transactions in a large multinational law firm. They will have to possess strong communication and management skills as well as be organized and detail-oriented.
Experience in the Web3 space is a must. A degree from a law school and a valid license to practice are also mandatory. The lawyer will be able to have a hybrid work schedule, meaning that a part of his working hours will be in-office in Burbank, California.
The job listing signals Disney’s belief in the future of Web3. Last year, the company started experimenting with NFTs and is now moving to the metaverse.
Regulations are only a matter of time until they arrive, so big companies must have legal teams specializing in Web3.
In June, former Apple executive Mike Bozom was named in charge of Disney’s metaverse strategy. Disney considers the metaverse the “Next Generation Storytelling Creative Experiences at Disney.”
