Crypto Jobs Features a Scam Job Listing That Makes Applicants Download Malware

In Brief

The Crypto Jobs website, founded by Carl Runefelt, also known as “MoonCarl,” features a scam job listing posted by Eco Land.

The scam company attracts individuals via Job Postings and offers “testers” to download a computer game containing malware.

This is not the first time that the Crypto Jobs website has allowed the posting of scam jobs. In July, a company called “Neon War” posted a job listing for a remote-working “NFT/P2E blockchain developer.”

The listing is based on the “Premium Jobs” selection, meaning that the company might have paid for the posting. Eco Land claims to be looking for remote beta testers, paid $175 per hour. As reported by blockchain sleuth ZachXBT, Eco Tech Land is a scam website that tries to install malware on users’ computers. The infected file is called “Eco Launcher.” On a side note, an X (former Twitter) user called Leandro Henflen shared that his computer was saved from this malware thanks to Mac’s CleanMyMac feature.

Notably, this is not the first time that the Crypto Jobs website has allowed the posting of scam jobs. In July, a company called “Neon War” posted a job listing for a remote-working “NFT/P2E blockchain developer.” The company claimed to pay $2,000 per week. The case was shared by X user and NFT collector named NFT_Dreww.eth on the social media platform.

This time, the scammer talked to the applicant on Discord. To participate in the “interview,” the applicant was supposed to enter the closed voice channel, which required verification. When they went to “verify,” they were asked to download a launcher from the company’s website that would complete their verification. After the individual refused to do so by saying they have extra security on their window, the representative of the company asked them to disable protection for a few minutes.

So, while CryptoJobs is a common resource for blockchain and web3 jobs, it attracts scam companies with fake job listings. It is important for job seekers and applicants to stay vigilant and never download random programs.
