Travala Introduces World’s First End-To-End Agentic AI Travel Protocol
In Brief
Travala launches an agentic AI travel protocol enabling autonomous hotel bookings via blockchain, with developer incentives and machine-driven payments across 2.2M+ hotel listings.

Crypto-native travel booking platform Travala announced the introduction of what it calls the world’s first agentic AI travel protocol. The system is designed to allow autonomous software agents to search, book, and pay for more than 2.2 million hotels, including major chains such as Marriott, Hilton, and IHG, with human involvement limited to final payment authorization. Alongside the launch, Travala is offering a 10% cbBTC (Coinbase Wrapped Bitcoin) rebate to developers who integrate and build AI agents using its Travala Travel MCP, with rewards applied to bookings completed through those systems.
The development comes amid rapid growth in the agentic commerce sector, with projections estimating transaction volumes could reach $8 billion in 2026 and expand to $3.5 trillion by 2031. Morgan Stanley Research has stated that “agentic shoppers” could represent up to 20% of global online retail spending by 2030, as digital commerce shifts toward autonomous, intent-driven systems. Within this context, Travala’s protocol is positioned as a standardized infrastructure layer enabling automated interaction with global travel inventories, reducing reliance on manual booking processes.
Agentic Commerce Infrastructure and Blockchain-Powered Travel Execution
Travala Travel MCP operates using the Base blockchain and the x402 protocol, an open payment standard that facilitates direct stablecoin transactions over the internet for applications, APIs, and AI agents. The system is intended to streamline booking flows by enabling near-instant USDC settlement on Base with low transaction costs, while eliminating traditional checkout procedures. Security is supported through ERC-7715 session keys, which separate payment authorization from agent activity, ensuring final transaction approval remains within a secure user-controlled wallet environment.
For developers, the platform introduces a rebate mechanism that provides a 10% cbBTC reward on completed bookings, distributed directly onchain to developer wallets without manual processing. The system also incorporates ERC-8004, which links agent performance to verifiable outcomes, establishing a reputation framework intended to support trust and reliability within automated workflows.
Additional functionality is expected to expand the protocol over time, including new travel categories such as flights. The AVA token, used within Travala’s loyalty ecosystem, is also expected to play a role in supporting broader use cases within the Travel MCP framework.
“The launch of the world’s first agentic AI travel protocol marks the death of the checkout button and the beginning of a truly autonomous travel economy,” said Juan Otero, CEO of Travala in a written statement. “By combining our global travel inventory with the industry’s first machine-to-machine settlement protocol, we’re effectively hardcoding Travala as the default travel rail for the agentic web,” he added.
“Base is built to be the home of the onchain economy, and Travala’s Travel MCP is exactly what that looks like in practice, devs using our infrastructure to power machine-to-machine commerce that’s seamless, autonomous, and global,” said Sam Frankel, Head of Partnerships at Base in a written statement. “We’re thrilled to see Travala lead the charge on real-world use cases for agentic payments,” he added.
The rise of agentic commerce represents a fundamental shift in the travel industry by moving beyond traditional user interfaces to a protocol-level infrastructure designed for autonomous agents. As the first travel provider to offer a comprehensive toolkit for AI-powered bookings, Travala is positioning the Travala Travel MCP as the foundational protocol for a future where travel is executed seamlessly by machines.
