San Francisco, California – January 31, 2024 – Space and Time, the Verifiable Compute Layer for Web3, is thrilled to announce that Blitzar, the GPU acceleration framework powering Proof of SQL, is now available in open-source. Space and Time open-sourced Blitzar to provide the Web3 community with a faster and more robust framework for building GPU-accelerated zero-knowledge (ZK) proofs. The main repository can be found here.
Over the last year, ZK proofs have gained significant traction across Web3, with the launch of Polygon zkEVM, zkSync Era and other highly anticipated ZK projects. Space and Time established itself as a leader in the ZK space by releasing Proof of SQL, a novel ZK proof that allows smart contracts to ask questions about data from their own chain, other chains or offchain sources in a verifiable way, in alpha in August.
Blitzar is the GPU acceleration framework behind Proof of SQL. ZK proofs are computationally demanding, and hardware acceleration frameworks help optimize them. The Blitzar framework is designed specifically for GPUs, which are a type of hardware well suited for heavy computational workloads like ZK proof generation. GPUs also offer an efficient memory structure for handling large datasets, which is critical for next-gen ZK proofs like Proof of SQL.
In 2022, Space and Time announced a partnership with NVIDIA to accelerate Proof of SQL with NVIDIA GPUs. As they began developing the Proof of SQL protocol, Space and Time struggled to find a GPU acceleration framework that was both able to handle the computational requirements of Proof of SQL and available in open-source. Instead, they Blitzar from the ground up.
“ZK proofs are the future of Web3, and we believe that every protocol can benefit from rapid GPU acceleration. Blitzar is already a very high-performance open-source GPU acceleration framework, and we’re excited to collaborate with the broader Web3 community to continue to improve Blitzar’s performance and enable the next generation of ZK proofs,” said Jay White, Co-Founder and Head of Research at Space and Time.
By open-sourcing Proof of SQL’s GPU acceleration framework, Space and Time believes ZK proofs will become faster, more robust, and more widely adopted across Web3, enabling a new generation of protocols, dapps and businesses powered by verifiable compute. Blitzar is the first open-source project released by the Space and Time core team.
About Space and Time
Space and Time is the first AI-powered decentralized data warehouse that joins tamperproof onchain and offchain data to deliver enterprise use cases to smart contracts. Space and Time has developed a novel cryptography called Proof of SQL that allows developers to connect analytics directly to smart contracts, opening up a wealth of powerful new use cases and business logic on blockchain technology. Space and Time is built from the ground up as a multichain data platform for developers in financial services, gaming, DeFi, or any project requiring verifiable data across enterprise, blockchain and AI.
