Ravencoin Faces Deep Reorg Risk After Consensus Bug Exploited, Exchanges Told To Suspend RVN Flows
In Brief
Ravencoin faces deep reorg risk after a consensus bug was exploited. Mining pools mine an alternative chain; exchanges suspend RVN deposits and withdrawals.

The Ravencoin network is confronting a severe security crisis after a critical consensus vulnerability was exploited on its mainnet, triggering a miner-led effort to excise invalid blocks and raising the prospect of a deep chain reorganization.
The first known invalid block was accepted by vulnerable nodes at height 4,487,776 on August 7, 2026, at 15:44 UTC. Following the initial demonstration of the flaw, additional invalid blocks were reportedly produced by other parties, compounding the instability across the proof-of-work blockchain.
Ravencoin, which launched in 2018 as a Bitcoin fork specializing in asset tokenization, advised exchanges to temporarily suspend all RVN deposits and withdrawals. Transactions confirmed after block 4,487,775 should be treated as potentially reversible, the project warned, noting that some affected transactions could return to the mempool but that reconfirmation is not guaranteed. Users were urged to avoid relying on recent confirmations until the network stabilizes.
Mining Pools Pursue Chain Exclusion as Reorg Risk Mounts
Mining pools 2Miners and RavenMiner, which currently control a majority of Ravencoin’s hash rate, have announced they are mining an alternative chain that excludes the exploited branch from block 4,487,776 onward. If this chain achieves dominance, the network could undergo a reorganization rolling back approximately three days of transaction history. A request by the Ravencoin team to adopt a more recent recovery point—intended to reduce disruption for users, services, and exchanges—was declined by the pools.
The incident underscores the persistent security challenges facing smaller proof-of-work networks, which often lack the hash rate diversity and defensive resources of larger chains. Consensus vulnerabilities, though relatively rare, can expose networks to invalid block acceptance and deep reorgs, with potentially severe financial consequences including double-spending and asset loss.
Exchanges and RVN holders are advised to remain vigilant, defer non-essential transactions, and await official confirmation of chain stability before resuming normal activity. The coming days will be decisive in determining the final state of the ledger and the extent of the impact on the Ravencoin ecosystem.
