Previously, Richard led teams working on foundational research, applied research, product incubation, search, customer service automation, and a cross-product AI platform for unstructured and structured data at Salesforce as the Chief Scientist and Executive Vice President. Prior to that, in 2016 Salesforce purchased MetaMind, an AI business where Richard served as both CEO and CTO. After earning his doctorate in computer science from Stanford University in 2014, Richard worked as an adjunct lecturer in the department of computer science at Stanford.
He is mostly credited with developing rapid engineering, contextual vectors, and word vectors—two of the most popular applications of neural networks in natural language processing. His accolades include the best computer science PhD thesis award from Stanford in 2014, the best paper award from ICML 2011, the Microsoft PhD Fellowship, the test of time award for a 2013 paper at ACL 2023, the PAMI Longuet-Higgins Prize for ImageNet, the Time Magazine’s Time100 AI in 2023, first place at the local LaserTag one random Friday evening, and more. He has received over 150,000 citations.
You.com became an innovator in 2022 as a result of these difficulties when it introduced a consumer product that used LLM capabilities to access and consult the internet, guaranteeing that the responses were thorough, current, and accompanied by citations. Building on this achievement, You.com launched multi-modal chat outputs in the spring of 2023. These improved user experiences—which included interactive graphics like charts, graphs, and apps—offered a solid substitute for text-based replies, especially when it came to issues that were happening in real time.
Now that You.com has unveiled the innovative YouAgent, the idea of AI agents has reached a whole new level. YouAgent is not just an information processing machine; it can also operate in its surroundings, unlike traditional LLMs. A computer environment that executes Python code makes this feasible. The LLM’s ability to write and run code creates opportunities for tackling challenging STEM problems. This code interpreter, when used in conjunction with YouAgent’s multi-step reasoning process, allows it to answer complex STEM questions with unparalleled precision.
