OpenAI Rolls Out Always-On AI Agents And Pursues A $1.4T Valuation In Post-IPO-Delay Funding Push

OpenAI Rolls Out Always-On AI Agents And Pursues A $1.4T Valuation In Post-IPO-Delay Funding Push

OpenAI has unveiled dots, a persistent AI agent designed to work autonomously on behalf of users, marking the company’s most direct move yet into the market for continuous digital assistants. The product, built on the GPT-6 version of the Astra model, is positioned as a direct competitor to Meta’s Muse and is available through ChatGPT, Slack, and Microsoft Teams. The launch was announced alongside other offerings at the company’s DevDay 2026 developer conference, including ChatGPT Space, the Agents API, and a cloud version of Codex.

Dots operate with their own cloud computer, browser, and access to more than 4,000 connected applications. The agents are designed to learn user preferences over time, monitor relevant sources proactively, and complete complex tasks such as research, document drafting, software development, invoice preparation, and content production. Users can interact with their dot through messaging or voice calls, inspect its work at any time, and grant it permission to connect to their personal devices when needed. OpenAI also previewed specialist dots — agents with dedicated organizational identities, credentials, and access to internal systems for enterprise functions such as procurement, customer support, and contract management. A partnership with Microsoft will integrate these specialist agents with the governance and security controls of Microsoft Agent 365.

From a commercial standpoint, dots are initially rolling out to Pro and Business Premium subscribers in eligible markets, with an Enterprise beta available through workspace administrators, and conversations with dots will not count toward standard ChatGPT usage limits. Notably, OpenAI has introduced a premium subscription priced at $500 per month — five times the cost of the highest-tier Muse plan — while adjusting certain usage permissions of its existing $200 plan, signaling a deliberate push toward monetizing agent capabilities at the top end of the market.

Reported Bridge Financing Signals Scale of Ambition

Alongside the product launch, OpenAI is reportedly seeking to raise at least $30 billion at a valuation of approximately $1.4 trillion, according to people familiar with the matter cited by Bloomberg. The funding would serve as bridge financing following delays to the company’s planned initial public offering, though discussions remain at an early stage. The reported valuation marks a dramatic step-up from OpenAI’s last funding round, completed in March 2026, which valued the company at $852 billion — implying an increase of roughly 64 percent in six months.

Taken together, the dots launch and the reported financing underscore OpenAI’s effort to convert technological momentum into durable commercial infrastructure. The company is simultaneously expanding its product surface into always-on agents — a category increasingly contested by major technology firms — and shoring up its balance sheet ahead of a public listing. If completed, the raise would rank among the largest private funding rounds ever recorded, reflecting investor appetite for frontier AI despite ongoing questions about sustainable monetization and the path to profitability.
