Gate Launches Industry-First Stock Copy Trading Across Global Equity Markets
In Brief
Gate becomes first crypto platform to offer copy trading for global stocks and ETFs, featuring fractional shares and High-Water Mark fees.

Cryptocurrency exchange Gate has introduced a stock copy trading function through its mobile application, marking what the platform describes as an industry-first initiative to extend the copy trading model from digital assets into traditional equity markets. The feature, accessible after updating the application to version 8.29.0 or later, allows investors to replicate the trading activity of experienced portfolio managers across United States, Hong Kong, and South Korean equities, as well as exchange-traded funds.
The mechanism operates through a proportional allocation system that automatically adjusts position sizes based on the relative capital available to the lead trader and the follower. This architecture enables automatic synchronization of buy orders, partial exits, and full position closures. Participants may initiate copy trading with fractional share quantities as small as one one-hundredth of a share, which reduces minimum capital requirements for gaining exposure to individual companies such as Apple, NVIDIA, Tencent, and Samsung. The platform maintains continuous availability for strategy management, operating outside conventional exchange hours.
Investor Protection and Compensation Structure
Before selecting a strategy to follow, prospective participants may review performance data including historical returns, maximum drawdowns, and existing follower counts. The compensation framework follows a High-Water Mark structure, under which lead traders collect performance fees only when a follower’s cumulative net profit exceeds its previously recorded peak. No performance allocation occurs during periods when an account remains below its historical profit maximum; lead traders must wait for followers to recover prior drawdowns before earning additional incentive payments. Qualified professionals may apply for lead trader status and receive performance-sharing rewards of up to ten percent. The platform provides analytics dashboards, strategy administration tools, and trader discovery mechanisms intended to foster long-term alignment between strategy providers and subscribers.
The stock trading infrastructure connects to Gate’s existing VIP program, where participants receive preferential fee schedules and associated benefits determined by asset holdings. The broader equity ecosystem currently supports access to more than twelve thousand five hundred stocks and ETFs, including approximately ten thousand United States listings, one thousand five hundred Hong Kong securities, and one thousand South Korean instruments. Through a unified account structure, investors may deploy USDT to purchase global equities while receiving support for fractional ownership, dividend distributions, cross-broker transfers for United States and Hong Kong positions, and corporate actions including stock splits and reverse splits.
The addition of stock copy trading represents an expansion from pure asset trading into investment services, reflecting a broader strategy to integrate traditional financial markets with Web3 infrastructure. The organization has indicated plans to continue broadening its global investment product range and multi-market functionality. A web-based version of the stock copy trading interface is expected to launch at a later date.
