Eight Years, One Responsibility: How Bitget Plans To Scale Trust Alongside Its Universal Exchange Vision

Cryptocurrency exchange Bitget has marked its eighth anniversary with a reflection on its evolution from a derivatives-focused platform into a multi-asset “Universal Exchange” (UEX), accompanied by a renewed emphasis on transparency, security and compliance as its user base and product range expand.

In a letter shared by Hon Ng, Chief Legal Officer at Bitget, the exchange outlined how far it has come since its founding. “Eight years ago, Bitget was a crypto derivatives exchange. Today, the platform serves more than 125 million users and is expanding across crypto, tokenized equities, commodities and other global markets under our Universal Exchange (UEX) vision.” That evolution, the letter notes, carries greater responsibility: as access broadens, so too must the infrastructure supporting it.

Central to the company’s message is the idea that trust must be demonstrable rather than assumed. Bitget introduced Proof of Reserves in December 2022 and has published reserve data every month since, committing to hold user assets at a minimum 1:1 reserve ratio with Merkle Tree-based verification allowing users to independently confirm the inclusion of their assets. In September 2026, the exchange’s 46th consecutive Proof of Reserves report recorded a total reserve ratio of 135%, with average ratios consistently above 120%. To coincide with the anniversary, Bitget is expanding Proof of Reserves coverage from four assets to 19. “As users gain access to more assets and markets, the scope of what they can independently verify should grow as well,” the letter states.

Beyond reserves, the exchange pointed to its Protection Fund as an additional financial safeguard. Established in 2022 with an initial commitment of $300 million, the fund maintained an average valuation of approximately $382 million in August 2026, operating alongside systems designed to prevent incidents from occurring in the first place.

Layered Security and Market Integrity at Scale

Security at Bitget is framed as a multi-layered effort covering account access, transaction monitoring and underlying infrastructure. Users have access to two-factor authentication, FIDO2 and WebAuthn passkeys, anti-phishing codes and device controls, supported by withdrawal safeguards, anomaly detection and fraud-prevention systems behind the platform.

Market quality forms another layer of protection. Earlier this year, Bitget introduced its Market Integrity and Token Accountability Framework to strengthen post-listing surveillance across listed assets, project teams and market makers. The framework is designed to detect abnormal wallet behaviour, market manipulation, weak liquidity and other suspicious trading activity, with potential consequences including enhanced risk warnings, restrictions, account freezes, trading suspensions or delisting.

On the regulatory front, Bitget highlighted a footprint spanning registrations, licences and approvals across jurisdictions including Argentina, Australia, El Salvador, Georgia (Tbilisi Free Zone), Mauritius, Mexico, New Zealand, South Africa, Switzerland and the UK. Its compliance systems incorporate KYC and KYB processes, AML and CFT controls, sanctions screening and ongoing engagement with regulators. Looking ahead, the exchange said it is working with BlockSec on a UEX Security Standard covering verifiable solvency, multi-asset risk isolation, data and privacy protection, dynamic monitoring, and application and infrastructure defence.

The letter concludes that growth and responsibility cannot be separated, noting that “every expansion in what a platform offers also expands what it needs to protect, verify and account for.” With its eighth anniversary theme framed as “Built for Trades,” Bitget positions security, transparency and standards as the benchmark against which its progress into a ninth year will be measured.
