Crypto.com And Fanatics Launch UEFA Champions League Final Match Coin Trading Card Activation

Cryptocurrency exchange Crypto.com announced a collaboration with Fanatics Collectibles, a global company specializing in licensed sports trading cards, to introduce a football memorabilia initiative connected to the UEFA Champions League Final in Budapest. The campaign will give one fan the opportunity to own the official physical Crypto.com Match Coin used during the final through a limited-edition trading card release.

As part of the activation, the official Match Coin from the UEFA Champions League Final will be embedded into a unique 1:1 premium Topps Now “Relic” Trading Card. Topps Now, a platform known for producing collectible cards tied to major live sporting moments, will distribute the opportunity through a random selection process. Fans who purchase a corresponding standard “base” card on Topps.com following the final will be automatically entered for a chance to receive the exclusive Relic Card.

In addition to the physical collectible, the Match Coin will also be authenticated on the Cronos Blockchain as a digital collectible. According to the announcement, the tokenized version of the coin will provide access to additional experiences during the 2026/27 football season, including UEFA Super Cup Final tickets, a League Phase Pass covering all eight matches of a selected club, and the opportunity to deliver the Match Coin at the club’s opening game of the season.

Blockchain Authentication and Fan Engagement Initiative

Ahead of the UEFA Champions League Final, the Match Coin was transported into Budapest’s Puskás Aréna by drone and presented by UEFA Ambassador Ashley Cole prior to match day activities. During the final, the coin is expected to be handed to the referee for the ceremonial coin toss used to begin the match. After the event, the coin will reportedly be transferred to Topps’ printing facility in Munich, where it will be embedded into the single-edition Relic card for the eventual winner.

“This exclusive activation with Topps is allowing us to combine an iconic match day ritual, the coin toss, with modern fandom and an opportunity to own a piece of history,” said Nicholas Christ, Global Head of Sponsorships, Crypto.com in a written statement. “By tokenising the physical coin we’re uniting two groups of sport fans – ones who collect NFTs and those who collect trading cards – all the while proving how this real-world tokenisation use case can ultimately become an investment asset on the blockchain,” he added.

This represents the conclusion of Crypto.com’s season-long Match Coin campaign connected to the UEFA Champions League. Throughout the season, fans who collected digital Match Coin collectibles were given opportunities to participate in exclusive experiences, including delivering the official Match Coin to referees before Champions League fixtures.
