Coincheck Group And DFNS Partner To Deploy Institutional-Grade Custody Infrastructure For Japan’s Regulated Digital Asset Market

Coincheck Group And DFNS Partner To Deploy Institutional-Grade Custody Infrastructure For Japan’s Regulated Digital Asset Market

Coincheck Group, the Dutch digital asset services firm, has entered into a strategic partnership with DFNS, a leading wallet infrastructure provider for institutional finance. The collaboration centers on deploying DFNS’s technology to strengthen digital asset custody and wallet services for Coincheck’s Japanese operations, with a clear focus on capturing opportunities in the country’s expanding institutional market.

Under the agreement, DFNS will support Coincheck, Inc., the Tokyo-based retail crypto exchange and Japanese subsidiary of Coincheck Group, in developing secure, institutional-grade custody solutions. The initiative aims to meet the specific compliance and operational requirements of Japanese financial institutions, with definitive agreements expected to formalize the arrangement. The partnership reflects Coincheck Group’s broader strategic pivot beyond its established retail customer base toward institutional services, leveraging infrastructure specifically engineered for large-scale digital asset operations and regulatory adherence.

Japan’s Regulatory Environment and Technical Requirements

Japan has established one of the world’s most advanced and comprehensive regulatory frameworks for digital assets, with trust banks serving as central pillars of the institutional custody ecosystem. Against this backdrop, demand from Japanese financial institutions for compliant, secure, and institutionally robust digital asset services has risen steadily. The Coincheck-DFNS collaboration is positioned to capture this demand by delivering custody infrastructure that aligns with local regulatory standards and the operational expectations of established financial players.

DFNS’s wallet-as-a-service platform consolidates transaction lifecycle management, workflow orchestration, policy and governance controls, key management, and third-party service integration within a unified secure control plane. The platform supports more than 100 blockchain networks and offers flexible deployment across software-as-a-service, hybrid, and on-premises configurations, including native hardware security module support. This architectural versatility addresses a critical operational requirement as global regulatory regimes increasingly mandate jurisdictional control over cryptographic key material.

Leadership from both organizations highlighted the importance of the alliance. Translating the company’s decade-long trust with Japanese retail customers into institutional services requires building custody infrastructure of a fundamentally different caliber, a gap that DFNS’s technology and institutional expertise are intended to fill, noted Pascal St-Jean, chief executive of Coincheck Group

Clarisse Hagège, chief executive of DFNS, emphasized Japan’s standing as one of the most sophisticated and rigorously regulated digital asset markets worldwide, noting that the partnership would bring DFNS’s wallet infrastructure to a market where trust banks have set exceptionally high standards for institutional custody globally.
