Bitget Report Finds 54% Of Aspiring Web3 Professionals Face Barriers Entering The Industry

In Brief

Bitget report reveals Web3 talent challenges, with 54% of aspiring professionals citing entry barriers and lack of practical experience as key obstacles.

Bitget Report Finds 54% Of Aspiring Web3 Professionals Face Barriers Entering The Industry

Cryptocurrency exchange Bitget published its Web3 Next-Gen Talent Intelligence Report, revealing that the main challenge facing the blockchain industry workforce is not a shortage of qualified candidates, but limited access to entry-level opportunities. The report was conducted through Bitget’s Blockchain4Youth (B4Y) initiative and surveyed students, aspiring professionals, and early-career participants across multiple regions to examine employment trends within Web3.

The findings show that many candidates interested in blockchain careers face difficulties transitioning from education into professional roles. More than 54% of respondents identified previous experience requirements for junior positions as the biggest barrier to entering the industry, while 52% said their academic background provided theoretical knowledge but lacked practical skills needed for workplace readiness.

The report suggests that although blockchain education has expanded globally, career pathways have not developed at the same pace. According to Bitget, the industry is facing an accessibility challenge, with many educated and motivated candidates unable to gain the initial experience required to begin their careers.

From Talent Interest to Career Pathways: Addressing the Web3 Workforce Gap

The study also highlighted the growing role of emerging markets in shaping the future Web3 workforce. Respondents from Nigeria, Indonesia, and China represented a significant portion of participants, reflecting increasing interest in blockchain careers beyond traditional technology centers. The survey found that nearly 46% of respondents were aged between 23 and 30, while more than 58% had completed Bachelor’s, Master’s, or PhD-level education.

“The industry has succeeded in attracting talent globally. The challenge now is converting talent into employment,” said Gracy Chen, CEO at Bitget in a written statement. The findings show there is a large pool of motivated and educated candidates, but many are struggling to take the first step into the industry. Closing this gap will be critical for the next phase of industry growth,” she added.

Career preferences among respondents also reflected broader industry trends, with AI and blockchain integration identified as the most attractive field by 61% of participants. However, practical exposure remained a key concern, with 62% of respondents selecting mentorship from experienced professionals as the most valuable support mechanism for accelerating career development.

The report follows the continued expansion of Blockchain4Youth, Bitget’s initiative focused on blockchain education and workforce preparation. The programme aims to combine technical learning with practical industry exposure through resources covering blockchain fundamentals, decentralized finance, emerging technologies, and industry knowledge.

Bitget stated that the Blockchain4Youth Learning Hub has surpassed 10,000 registered learners worldwide. Participants who complete the programme receive certification and may gain access to selected career opportunities through Bitget and the Blockchain4Youth Talent Alliance.

The report concludes that closer cooperation between educational institutions, employers, training platforms, and industry organizations will be essential to improving employment pathways and supporting the long-term development of the Web3 workforce. Bitget emphasized that creating stronger connections between education, mentorship, and professional opportunities will be a key factor in expanding participation in the blockchain sector.
