Umoja Foundation’s Charity NFT Collection to Aid Ugandan Orphans Debuts on Giving Tuesday
In Brief
Each Umoja NFT contributes to the welfare of the orphans and the underprivileged community affiliated with the Dasom Ministries Orphanage in Uganda.
Web3 philanthropic initiative Umoja Foundation, is set to release its inaugural charity NFT collection on November 28, aligning with Giving Tuesday.
Blending the realms of web3 technology and philanthropy, Umoja’s charity NFT project harnesses human creativity to manifest tangible real-world benefits. Conceived by the very beneficiaries it seeks to aid, each Umoja NFT contributes to the welfare of the orphans and the underprivileged community affiliated with the Dasom Ministries Orphanage in Uganda.
These NFTs, known for their imaginative allure are crafted through generative art pieces that spring from the collective vision of the orphanage’s 17 young residents, under the guidance of Joel Muwonge.
These youthful visionaries provide prompts such as “I imagine a lion carrying a young boy [on] its back, running through a body of water” or “I imagine of a woman dressed in a white dress, walking through a field of blue and white flowers”. These prompts, along with artistic direction formulated by Umoja’s Founder, Tiffany Stewart, are fed into a generative art program, culminating in the creation of Umoja’s unique and dreamlike NFTs.
The proceeds from the sales of Umoja’s NFTs directly contribute to the welfare of Dasom Ministries. These contributions support critical necessities, including sustenance, healthcare, education, and clothing. Additionally, they fund ambitious undertakings, such as the construction of a larger dwelling, the acquisition of a transportation vehicle, and a clean water initiative.
Over a 17-day period (symbolic of the 17 children under Dasom Ministries’ care), a total of 250 unique NFT artworks will be available for purchase. This assortment comprises 200 pieces with 30 copies each and 50 exclusive 1/1 editions. Umoja is committed to making philanthropic contributions in the web3 arena accessible to a wide audience. To this end, each NFT in their inaugural collection will be available for approximately $100 USD equivalent in Ethereum.
Exclusively accessible through the Rarible platform, any resales of Ethereum-backed Umoja NFTs will generate royalties that continue to fuel the foundation’s ongoing initiatives. Umoja underlines the significance of NFT resales within their model, emphasizing their utility as investments with a real-world impact. With every resale, 7% of royalties will be funneled back to Umoja, facilitating the replenishment of resources and providing continuous support to Dasom Ministries, while also enabling expansion endeavors.
As part of their forward-looking strategy, Umoja plans to introduce future NFT collections that encompass animated and physical artworks, with a broader focus on aiding communities not only in Uganda but also across Africa and beyond.
