Bybit Launches Regulated Indonesia Platform Following Majority Acquisition Of NOBI

In Brief

Bybit launches regulated Indonesian exchange under OJK after acquiring PT Enkripsi Teknologi Handal, with local leadership and 500+ trading pairs.

Bybit Launches Regulated Indonesia Platform Following Majority Acquisition Of NOBI

Cryptocurrency exchange Bybit established a fully regulated local operation in Indonesia after completing a majority acquisition of PT Enkripsi Teknologi Handal, previously known as NOBI. The newly formed entity, Bybit Indonesia, now functions under the direct oversight of Otoritas Jasa Keuangan (OJK), marking a significant step in the exchange’s compliance-driven international growth.

The expansion into Indonesia follows Bybit’s regulatory-first strategy, a framework through which the company enters new jurisdictions by building locally compliant structures, securing licensed entities, and maintaining continuous dialogue with financial authorities. Rather than treating Indonesia as a short-term growth target, Bybit has positioned the market as a core component of its long-term global strategy.

The platform will roll out its services in measured phases, with the initial offering set to include more than 500 trading pairs. Bybit Indonesia will operate using institutional-grade liquidity infrastructure, integrated market surveillance systems, and risk management protocols designed to satisfy both domestic regulatory expectations and the exchange’s internal global benchmarks. Any subsequent products or features will be released only in accordance with local requirements and will be accompanied by appropriate disclosures and consumer safeguards.

How Local Experience Is Shaping the New Platform

In order to ensure operational continuity and regulatory adherence, Bybit Indonesia has assembled a management team based entirely within the country. Lawrence Samantha serves as Chief Executive Officer, Dionisius Evan as Chief Operating Officer, and Steven Gotama as Chief Marketing Officer. Both Samantha and Evan previously held senior positions at NOBI, bringing established familiarity with the local market to their new roles. The leadership group will manage daily operations, implement compliance frameworks, and engage with regulators and industry partners as the platform develops.

“This acquisition allows us to combine Bybit’s global capabilities with an experienced local team that understands Indonesia’s market and regulatory environment,” said Lawrence Samantha, CEO of Bybit Indonesia in a written statement. “Our focus is on disciplined operations, clear communication, and a careful transition for NOBI users. We will introduce products progressively, in line with OJK requirements, and we will measure our success by how responsibly and transparently we serve Indonesian users,” she added.

“Indonesia represents a significant opportunity for the digital asset industry, but sustainable growth can only be achieved through regulatory alignment and responsible operations,” said Ben Zhou, Co-founder and CEO of Bybit in a written statement. “Bybit Indonesia reflects our commitment to working constructively with local authorities, respecting national frameworks, and building a platform that prioritises user protection, transparency, and long-term market integrity,” he added.

Education has been identified as a foundational element of Bybit Indonesia’s market approach. The company intends to allocate resources toward localized learning programs, beginning with Bybit Learn, as a means of promoting informed participation and responsible engagement with digital asset services. The objective is to integrate international operational standards with locally relevant content, enabling Indonesian users to navigate the digital asset economy with greater confidence and understanding.
